Our Animals

Dexter Cattle.

Small in stature, huge in flavour — the pride of Pen-Y-Waun.

The Dexter is an Irish breed of small cattle. It originated in the eighteenth century in County Kerry in south-western Ireland, and appears to be named after a man named Dexter, factor of the estates of Lord Hawarden on Valentia Island. Until the second half of the nineteenth century it was considered a type within the Kerry breed.

Our Dexter cattle are born and raised on our family farm to ensure you get the freshest and most flavourful cuts. We guarantee our meat is free from hormones and antibiotics — just slow-grown, grass-finished beef with the marbling and depth of flavour proper husbandry demands.

"Can't find what you're looking for? We're happy to take custom orders — just let us know and we'll make it happen."

We can dispatch fresh, or arrange collection from the farm shop. Whole, half and quarter beef available on request.
